Edsby enables parents to keep up-to-date with their children’s schooling at the convenience of their mobile phones by using the Edsby mobile app.

Home screen
When parents log into the Edsby App, the Home Screen will be the first screen they see. This screen displays the News River as well as a list of their children to scroll through. Under each child’s name, parents are provided with quick access options regarding their children. From here, parents can plan absences and view their child’s Classes, Portfolio, Learning Story, Attendance, Recent Activity, and Calendar.
The News River
The News River runs along the top of the Home Screen when parents first log in. The newest posts will be visible first, however, parents can access older posts by swiping to the left.

Children
On the Home Screen, parents will see a list of their children that they can scroll through.
Under each child’s name, parents are provided with quick access options regarding their children.
Planning Absences
Edsby enables parents to inform their child’s school of an absence quickly and easily right from their mobile devices.
Planning an Absence
Parents can report future absences, partial day absences, and multi-day absences through Edsby. The Plan an Absence button on the Home Screen should be used if a child will be absent at a time other than the current day or for multiple days.
After selecting this, the child’s name will be automatically filled in. Fill out the form by specifying the dates and times the child will be absent for, providing a reason, and an optional comment. When finished, click Send to School Office. The Office will be notified and can approve the Planned Absence. Absence requests can be found in Edsby Messages and the requests will indicate if the request has been approved.
Absent Today
If a child is going to be away the whole current day, click Absent Today to open the Planned Absence form.
The child’s name will be automatically filled in the form. Select a reason for the absence, the comment is optional. When the form is complete, click Send to School Office. The Office will review and approve the absence. Absence requests can be found in Edsby Messages and the requests will indicate if the request has been approved.
Portfolio
Each student has their own Edsby Portfolio, which is similar to a personal blog. In the Portfolio, students create posts about themselves and their academic or extracurricular success. Parents can view their child’s Portfolio as a feed by clicking Portfolio on the Home Screen under the child’s name.
Learning Story
Parents can view Evidence teachers have shared regarding their children through their child’s Learning Story. This feed is available by clicking Learning Story on the Home Screen under the child’s name.
Parents can Like and Comment on posts their children’s teachers have shared in the Learning Story. Parents can also capture Learning Evidence for their child using Edsby Capture.

Attendance
Parents can view their child’s attendance records by clicking Attendance under their child’s name on the Home Screen.
Recent Activity
Parents can view posts made by their child’s teachers by clicking Recent Activity under their child’s name on the Home Screen.
Here, new posts, events, and assessments made by any of the child’s teachers will be visible. This enables parents to keep up-to-date with all that is happening in the Classes of each of their children.
Calendar
Clicking Calendar under a child’s name on the Home Screen will bring parents to the Personal Calendar of their child.
This Calendar summarizes all overdue, current, and upcoming events and assessments from all Classes and Groups this child is a part of, as well as events from the school, district, and those made personally by the child themselves.
Parents can also plan absences for their child through the Calendar.
To plan an absence for a child, select either Absent Today or Schedule Absence from the top of the screen.

Child’s Classes
Parents can see an overview of the Classes their child is taking by clicking Classes below the name of their child on the Home Screen. A list of their child’s Classes is visible along with their averages in each class if their teacher has chosen to show them. A Report Cards button showing current and past report cards will appear at the bottom of Class lists in the mobile app if the school or district is electing to share report cards via Edsby.
Parents can view their child’s grades in a class by clicking My Work below each Class. From here, parents will see overdue, incomplete, upcoming, ungraded, and graded assessments. Below each assessment listed, parents can see their child’s submissions, a teacher’s private notes and annotations, and grades for that assessment.
If the teacher has enabled parents to enter, parents can click on any Class to view the posts the teacher has made in the Class Feed. If parents have enable notifications, they can be notified each time the teacher makes a new post in the Class Feed. Parents never see the list of students enrolled in any Class to protect the privacy of other students.
Click Content to view all class Content the teacher has provided for the Class.
Parents can also view Journals on what was covered each day in class and the Class Library by navigating to these from the menu bar across the top of the Class Screen.
Groups
Clicking Groups along the bottom of the screen will bring parents to a screen that shows all the Groups they are a member of.
From here, click on the icon of any Group to view the Group Feed.
If enabled by the Group moderator, members can post either a Note or Poll in the Group by clicking the icon in the top right corner of the screen.
The unread counter indicates new posts in the Group.
Click Calendar in the top menu bar of a Group to view past, current, and upcoming events specific to the selected Group.
Parents can also view the Knowledge Base, important Pinned Items, and the Group Library by navigating to these from the menu bar across the top of the Group screen.
Messages
Parents can view messages by clicking the Messages icon in the navigation bar across the bottom of the screen.
The screen will show a parent’s messages along with options to:
- Search through them
- View a message
- Compose a new message
Click a message to view the conversation.
To compose a new message, click the New Message icon in the top right corner of the main messages screen.
Fill out the form and click Send.
Calendar
Clicking the Calendar icon from the bottom navigation bar brings a parent to the Personal Calendar.
This Calendar summarizes all past, current, and upcoming events from any Groups that parents are a member of. This calendar is only visible to the parent and is also the place where personal events can be added to the Calendar for the parent. To add a personal event, click the Add button on the right side of the screen.
Fill out the form and click Save at the bottom.
The event will be added to the parent’s calendar and it will only be visible to them.
Changing Calendar Settings
Click the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen to select what is displayed on the calendar.
Parents can select certain groups or classes to be displayed on the Personal Calendar.
Boxes with a checkmark indicate that events and/or assessments from these sections will be added to the Personal Calendar.
Notifications
Parents can choose to be notified of various activities in various ways through email, Edsby itself, or Mobile Notifications on mobile through their Account Settings. Edsby notifications are found in Notifications from the navigation bar across the bottom of the screen.
Clicking a mobile notification on mobile will place parents in the appropriate context of the Edsby App where the notification came from. For example, Delores Abram received a notification from the Information for Parent Group.
Clicking this notification will bring her to the Group within the Edsby App.

Settings
Parents can access Settings by clicking on the menu icon in the top left corner of the Home Screen.
Here, parents can review their Login Information, Personal Information, Notification Settings, and Other Settings.
Login Information
Parents can view their username and current password by clicking Login Information in Settings. Parent usernames are set by the school or district.
If this information is incorrect or requires updating, parents should contact the school. However, parents can change their passwords themselves. Type in the new password in Settings > Login Information and confirm it by typing it again under Verify Password. Click Save.
The new password is effective immediately.
Personal Information
Parents can review their address and phone and other information by selecting Personal Information from the Settings menu. If this information is incorrect or requires changing or updating and cannot be updated here, parents should contact the school. It is often managed by the school in the school’s master systems and synced to Edsby.
Notifications
Parents can view and update Notification Settings by clicking Notifications in their settings menu. Here, parents can choose to be notified regarding their Messages, Personal Calendar, Organization, Classes, Groups, or Children.
Click on the row to update. For more information on changing Notification Settings, click here.
Other Settings
Parents can change the language settings by selecting Other Settings in the Settings menu.
Select the preferred language using the drop-down menu. Click Save.

Launchpad
Key third-party websites and applications are integrated into Edsby through the Launchpad for quick access. Some examples include Edsby Help Files & Videos, the school website, O365, and Google Docs. The Launchpad can be accessed through the Home Screen drop-down menu.
Parents can also add links to the Launchpad to websites or applications that they would like quick access to. In this example, Delores Abram would like to add a quick link to her child’s Science teacher’s YouTube help channel. Click the Add Link button in the Launchpad.
Give the link a title and paste the website address in the URL box. Add an optional image icon by clicking Browse. Click Save.
The link will be easily accessible in the Launchpad for quick access.
School and District Pages
The Edsby Mobile App enables access to the school and district pages of the children associated with parents’ account. To access these, click Schools under the Home Screen drop-down menu. Click the name of a school or district to view its page.
Parents will be brought to the News Feed of the school where posts made by members of the school can be viewed.
Parents can view the School Calendar by clicking Calendar.
Parents can view the School Information by clicking Info.
To be notified when the school posts a new article, click the bell icon in the top right corner of the screen
Searching in Edsby
Parents can search for people, Groups, or anything else in Edsby by clicking the Search icon in the top right corner of the Home Screen.
Type a search request into the box and suggestions will appear.
To refine a search, click the blue button at the bottom of the search options. Searches can be filtered to search through People, Groups, Posts, Documents, or other. Parents can also specify which group to search in or search by who created the content. Additionally, the date range can be refined to narrow down the search.
Once parents have located what they were searching for, click on the result.
Logout
Parents can log out of Edsby from the Home Screen drop-down menu by clicking Logout.
