About EdsbyLive
An organization can choose to enable the Go Live feature within Edsby. Once enabled, a teacher can create a secure Teams meeting on the fly by clicking the Go Live Now button within a Class. Students in the class will be able to join via a button in Edsby (no ugly URL exposed) which will minimize “zoombombing”-like intrusions.
Teacher experience
To launch a new Teams meeting, navigate to the class and click Go Live Now.
If the teacher is logged into their M365 account and has the Teams application installed, the teacher can join the Teams meeting immediately. If a teacher is not logged into their account, they can so from the Microsoft Teams landing page.
Once the teacher joins the Teams meeting, the teachers use the Teams interface to manage the meetings.
New meetings are created so that only the teacher can present, and the Lobby feature is enabled which requires the teacher to admit each participant. As with any Teams meeting, the Meeting Options can be used by the teachers to change the meeting options.
Ending the meeting
To end the meeting, the teacher chooses End Meeting from within the Teams environment. Students are returned to the lobby when the teacher ends the meeting. Microsoft Teams offers a choice of leaving a meeting or ending a meeting. Leaving a meeting will not return the students to the Lobby, but the teacher can rejoin the meeting through the Teams interface and then choose End Meeting.
Student experience
Once the teacher clicks the Go Live Now button, students enrolled in the class are sent a notification. Students can join the meeting from the notification. If students are logged in with a desktop browser or a tablet browser, students can join the meeting from both the notification and from within the Class .
For students, the “Go Live” button within the notification and class will become inactive and disappear after an hour. If the teacher has already ended the meeting before the hour has expired, students will see the standard Microsoft Teams’ message that appears if the host is not present: “When the meeting starts, we’ll let people know you’re waiting in the lobby”
Supported browsers
For teachers, a meeting can be started from either a desktop or tablet browser. For students using a mobile browser on a phone, they can join the meeting for the notification. For students using the desktop browser or tablet browser, they can join the meeting from the notification or from within the Class.
Sample text to share with students
“We are going to start joining our class Teams meetings from within Edsby. Once I open the Teams meeting, you will be able to join by clicking the Go Live button.
If you are joining the meetings from a phone, log into Edsby from a browser rather than the Edsby app. You can join the meeting from the notification. If you are using a laptop or tablet, you can join the meeting from either the notification or from with the class.”
